tj Roulette — Spin the Wheel, Test Your Luck
From European to live dealer tables — every round of roulette at tj brings new possibilities. Learn about bet types, payouts and how to play responsibly.
How a Round of Roulette Works
Roulette is a straightforward but engaging game. The table has a large wheel with pockets numbered 0 to 36, and next to it is the area where bets are placed — known as the betting layout or felt.
Each round begins when the dealer announces "place your bets". Players place chips on their chosen numbers or groups. The dealer spins the wheel and releases a metal ball in the opposite direction. When the wheel stops, the pocket the ball lands in is the winning number. Any bet placed on that number or on a group that includes it pays out.
European roulette has a single green pocket (0), while American roulette has two green pockets (0 and 00). At tj, European and French roulette are available alongside live dealer versions.
At the end of a round, the dealer removes losing bets and pays out the winners. Bets are then placed again for the next round.
Bet Types and Payouts — What Each One Pays
Roulette has two categories of bets: inside bets (on specific numbers on the inner board) and outside bets (on larger groups). See the payout for each below.
A simple guide to choosing your bet type
For higher returns — choose inside bets. A straight up win pays 35 times your stake, though the chance of winning is relatively lower.
To play longer — choose outside bets. Red/Black or Odd/Even cover nearly half the outcomes (excluding zero), with a 1:1 payout.
A middle ground — Dozens or Columns pay 2:1 and cover one third of all numbers.
You can combine multiple bet types in one round. Many experienced players place a straight up bet on a specific number while also placing an outside bet — keeping open the chance of a large win while the outside bet covers part of any loss.
Special Bets in French Roulette
French roulette has the "En Prison" rule — if the ball lands on zero, a 1:1 bet is not lost but held over to the next round. This effectively halves the house edge. In addition, special bets covering specific sections of the wheel are available: "Voisins", "Orphelins" and "Tiers".
What the House Edge Means
The house edge is the casino's long-term mathematical advantage. It has no effect on any individual round — each spin of the wheel is completely independent — but over many rounds this marginal advantage becomes clear.
In European roulette (single zero) the house edge is approximately 2.7%. In American roulette (0 and 00) it is roughly double — about 5.3%. In French roulette with the En Prison rule, the house edge on even-money bets drops to around 1.35%, the lowest among roulette variants.
It is worth noting that the house edge applies equally to every bet type — a straight up bet and a Red/Black bet carry the same house edge (2.7% in European roulette). The choice of payout ratio therefore comes down to personal risk preference, not mathematical advantage.
Practical Advice for Beginners
For High Roller Players
For those interested in playing with larger stakes, tj has a dedicated High Roller table. Higher table limits and VIP benefits are available there.
VIP members also receive weekly cashback — up to 0.7% of the week's net losses at the Silver tier.
Live Dealer vs Digital — What's the Difference
Live Dealer Roulette
Streamed live from a real studio or casino. A human dealer spins the wheel and releases the ball — the entire process is visible on video. Studios such as Evolution and Pragmatic Play Live deliver high-quality streaming.
- Closest feeling to a real casino experience
- Chat feature lets you talk to the dealer
- Multiple players share one table at the same time
- Works fully on mobile
Digital (RNG) Roulette
Operated by a computer algorithm (Random Number Generator). The outcome of every spin is completely random and independently verified.
- Fast spins — no waiting
- Lower minimum bets — good for beginners
- You can pause at any time
- Runs well even on a slow internet connection
Both live dealer and digital roulette tables are available in the tj Casino section at tj. Beginners may want to get comfortable on the digital version before moving to a live table.
Table Limits — Low or High Stakes
Roulette tables have two limits: a minimum bet and a maximum bet. These limits vary from table to table.
Low-limit tables are for new or cautious players. Small bets per spin let you play for longer without burning through your balance quickly.
Mid-limit tables are generally suitable for most players. Reasonable amounts can be placed on both inside and outside bets.
High-limit tables are for experienced and high roller players. A significant stake can be placed on a single spin. Live dealer VIP tables typically fall into this category.
When choosing a limit, match it to your session budget. A general rule is to keep each individual bet to no more than 2–5% of your total session budget.
